The PROFMAT Mathematics Professional Masters Degree in National Network is a semi-presential mathematics masters program with national offer. It is composed by a network of Higher Education Institutions, in the context of the Aberta do Brasil University (Brazil's Open University)/Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), and coordinated by the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM), with support from the National Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA). PROFMAT emerged through an action induced by CAPES with the Mathematics scientific community, represented and coordinated by SBM.

 

MATHEMATICS TEACHERS TRAINING

The PROFMAT aims to serve primarily Mathematics teachers acting in Basic Education, especially public schools, seeking improvement in their vocational training, with emphasis on in-depth mastery of mathematical content relevant to their teaching.

 

INCOMING

The PROFMAT conducts annual selections, regulated in calls, which describe guidelines and information necessary to perform the National Access Examination (ENA) to the program.

 

CAPES EVALUATION

The PROFMAT was recommended by CAPES, recognized by the National Education Council - CNE and validated by the Ministry of Education with grade 5 (maximum grade for masters degree programs).

 

NATIONAL EDUCATION PLAN

The PROFMAT with the National Education Plan – PNE, Law N. 13.005, of June 25, 2014, which sets in its Goal 16: to train, at the postgraduate level, 50% (fifty percent) of Education teachers Until the last year of this PNE, and to guarantee all the professionals of Basic Education continuing education in their area, considering the needs, demands and contextualization of education systems. In addition, PROFMAT also meets goals 14, 17 and 18, which deal respectively with increasing the number of enrollments in the stricto sensu graduate; appreciation of the teacher; and career path.

 

NATIONAL QUALIFICATION EXAM

The PROFMAT has a NATIONAL QUALIFICATION EXAM (ENQ) which consists of a single written evaluation, offered twice a year, with discursive questions, involving the contents of the first four mandatory subjects and it is prepared by the National Commission for Students Evaluation. ENQ exams are digitally depersonalized and corrected on the online correction module of the PROFMAT computer platform.
