Abstract:

The study on Financial Education in High School is still not a subject in some Brazilian educational institutions. While we perceive the absence of Financial Education, we are faced with easy access to credit, either through overdraft, credit card, loans, financing, or others. Allied, these two issues unbalance personal finances, can lead individuals to excessive commitment of income, and compromise planning for the retirement, for example. Provide the learning of mathematical concepts such as percentage, simple and compound interest, interest rates, among others, linking those to terms related to basic economics and Financial Education, such as inflation, loan operations, amortization systems, investments (savings account, public bonds, bank deposit certificate, real estate credit bill, agribusiness credit bill, fixed income funds), private pension, contributing to the training of regular education students as critical and qualified citizens, able to seek information and solutions for managing their own finances, in other words, assisting them in making assertive and conscious decisions. The purpose of this study is to discuss the importance of the implementation of the teaching and learning of Financial Education for high school students of public schools, presenting a suggestions of concepts to be worked, as well as discussing how the State has positioned itself in this regard. Through Financial Education it is possible to improve the quality of life of people and the community in which they live, since levels of indebtedness and defaults are closely linked to the quality of individuals’ financial decisions.
